Pakistan Peoples Party Punjab President Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said on Sunday that the PPP could win the chairman and vice chairman slots in Okara as it had won 14 union council seats in the district.
In a statement issued from the party secretariat, Wattoo pointed out that a large number of independents had won in the local bodices’ elections in Okara and that the PPP as per its policy had supported independent candidates keeping in view the local dynamics of politics.
He said that with the approval of the top leadership, PPP Punjab had allowed the local chapters of the PPP to go for seat adjustment if the office bearers considered such arrangement in the interests of the local politics and the party.
He maintained that PPP was still the second largest political force in the country and had won an overwhelming majority of seats in the Sindh province.
In Punjab, he said that the results of the local bodies’ elections with the PPP’s support extending to independent candidates clearly showed that the party was still a political force to be reckoned with.
“The critics who were predicting the elimination of the party altogether from the political horizon of the country must have been terribly disappointed,” he said.
