Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction over the conduct of first phase of the local bodies’ (LB) elections in a peaceful and transparent manner in 12 districts of the province.
Sharif, in a statement issued on Saturday, congratulated the institutions concerned, Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, administration, police and other law enforcement agencies for their hard work, and hoped that similar arrangements would be made during the second phase of LB elections.
The CM observed that success and defeat in the elections was meaningless, and it was in fact the victory of democratic system which would result in further strengthening democracy and democratic institutions. He also appreciated the federal institutions that helped the provincial departments ensure peaceful elections and took exemplary steps for protection of life and property of the masses.
Sharif said that the steps taken by the Punjab government for maintaining peace were best and foolproof as compared to other provinces. He further said that the entire team performed duties efficiently. He said that due to effective and timely measures of the Punjab government, not only action was taken against those displaying arms but also against those taking law into their own hands.
The CM also recalled that the worst arrangements had been seen during the LB elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where precious human lives were lost due to firing.
