The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of the violation of the electoral code of conduct by Chaudhry Sher Ali’s Mayor group in Faisalabad.
Sher Ali reportedly continued with his public meeting in Faisalabad Thursday evening even after the lapse of the campaign time. Besides, the group had not even been allowed to hold a public meeting in Dhobi Ghaat area by the district administration.
ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad said the Commission was considering the matter, adding that a report has been called from the district returning officer in this respect.
A private media outlet however reported that the ECP has summoned the Mayor group leadership, Faisalabad police chief and district coordination officer (DCO) on November 3.
In his address to PML-N supporters during campaign for the local bodies (LB) elections, Sher Ali came down hard on Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. He accused the minister of murdering 20 people, and said he would soon be sent to jail for his crimes.
Meanwhile, local police have registered a case against the Mayor group for violating the code of conduct.
