PESCO suffers Rs 34 mn losses due to earthquake

The devastating earthquake which brought catastrophe in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) also damaged the Electricity infrastructure in many areas of the province.

According to an initial estimate PESCO faces Rs 34 million damages to its Infrastructure in the earthquake hit areas. These include 98 distribution transformers of different categories, 201 HT/LT structures, 273 pen insulators, 141 desk insulators, 147 steel cross arms, different type of conductors, 13 single phase meters and other instruments.

Similarly boundary walls of 132 KV Shahi Bagh grid station, Bannu grid station and 33 KV Darosh Chitral also developed cracked, while damages also occurred in 132 KV Chakdara, Temergra, Khawaza Khela, Shangla Paar and Wari Grid Stations.

Earthquake Emergency Response Force established on the directions of Chief Executive PESCO Syed Hassan Fazil with the collaboration of PESCO field offices timely took the measures. Electricity in most of the affected areas has been restored. PESCO teams made their way in the remote areas and replaced transformers, poles and cables damaged due to earthquake. Some areas which are still not cleared and due to road blockage, PESCO teams are facing difficulties in the rehabilitation work, and hope electricity will be restored as soon as roads are opened.

CEO PESCO has directed the staff members to extend their full support and co operation to district administration and public for the rehabilitation in earthquake hit areas.
