The Lahore High Court on Thursday vacated stay order against construction of Sahiwal Coal Fired Power Plant.

Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh gave the orders while hearing a petition filed by Saif Power Limited against construction of the coal fired power plant in Sahiwal.

As proceedings started, Khawaja Haris advocate, Mustafa Ramday advocate and Advocate General Punjab Naveed Rasool Mirza appeared on behalf of the Punjab government to argue against the stay order on construction of the plant.

However, the petitioner’s counsel Munawar Islam submitted that discussions were in progress with the government over the issue and two meetings had taken place between the parties in this regard.

He said that his client did not have any objections if the government was allowed to continue construction of the plant.

At this, the court withdrew the stay order issued against the construction of the 2X 660MW coal fired power project at Qadirabad, Sahiwal, on October 9, allowing the government to continue construction of the project and adjourned the matter till November 24.
