Rawalpindi Cantonment Board has released new building code for multi story buildings to make them safe in future in case of Earthquake.
It is stated that owners of the affected buildings will submit structural engineer’s report to Cantt board’s building cell, while the owners will have to submit the certificate of national disaster management authority in case of mega projects containing the assurance that the building would be Earthquake proof. Despite this Cantt board would carry out survey of old buildings in Cantt’s area, after which a decision would be taken about demolishing or maintenance of dilapidated buildings
According to details after massive Earthquake shocks, Cantt Board Executive Officer Dr. Saima Shah set up a committee under the additional CEO Rana Rameez Shafqat.
It was disclosed by committee that heavy shocks of quake created cracks in many buildings including AWT Plaza, Singapore Plaza, Gakhar Plaza and in Poonch house.
In addition orders have been given to the owners of damaged buildings to submit the report of structural engineers that these buildings will remain safe in future and also to ensure maintenance of buildings which have developed cracks as soon as possible.
On the other hand the owner of an affected building in coal centre has started demolishing the affected building No 2208 by himself.
