Imambargah cleric, gunman targeted by assailants

A cleric from the Qasr-e-Sajjad Imambargah and his gunman were seriously injured by motorcycle assailants, within the Sadiqabad police jurisdiction.

Maulana Nazir Hussain and his gunman Bilal were going to Jamia School, when unknown motorcyclists opened fire on them. Three bullets hit Hussain in the shoulder, while a single bullet hit his gunman’s chest. The motorcyclists escaped the scene.

The injured were rushed to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital where doctors said that they were out of danger. The bullets were taken out after surgical operations.

The Counter Terrorism Department has registered a case against the unknown assailants and started an investigation, the police said.

Meanwhile, protestors blocked Murree Road after the incident; however, it was later opened to traffic following intervention by the local administration and police.

New Town DSP Mohammad Faisal, while talking to media, said that the firing was a targeted attempt on the cleric and a similar incident had taken place at the same place last year. He said that the attack was carried out with a 9mm pistol.
