The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought the copy of Supreme Court’s order regarding treatment of Dr Asim Hussain for its guidance.

Headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, the SHC bench was hearing the petition filed by Dr Zareen Akhter, wife of Dr Asim, who sought medical facilities for her spouse.

During the hearing, the court observed that the issue of Dr Asim’s treatment was taken up by the Supreme Court and decided the other day; therefore, they would like to have the order’s copy for its guidance.

The petitioner counsel stated that he would place a copy of the apex court’s order in the next hearing. He requested the court to direct the respondents to submit all test reports of Dr Asim which were conducted by the Rangers. Additional Attorney General, Salman Talibuddin, stated that he would take instructions from Rangers as to whether or not any test of Dr Asim was conducted. The court adjourned hearing of the case till 5th of November.

Dr Asim is currently in Rangers’ detention for 90 days under section 11 EEEE of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 over his alleged involvement in corruption and offences related to terrorism. The Rangers had told the ATC that they had credible information about Dr Asim’s involvement in offences coming within the ambit of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.

It is pertinent to mention here that on 9th of October, the Supreme Court had disposed of the petition seeking transfer of Dr Asim to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) for treatment.

The apex court gave its verdict after submission of seven-member team of doctors stated that Dr Asim did not require hospitalization as the doctors did not find any abnormality.
