Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting on Wednesday to consider proposals for reforms in the Anti-Corruption Establishment.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that the role of anti-corruption establishment is of vital importance for controlling corruption and reforms for capacity-building is the need of the hour.
Sharif said that anti-corruption establishment would have to work in an active and professional manner. He said that refresher courses were essential for training of the field officers and that modern technology should be fully utilised for capacity-building of anti-corruption establishment staff.
Sharif directed that an effective monitoring system should also be evolved for reviewing the performance of the institution on a regular basis.
The chief minister said that funds were the trust of the nation and their misappropriation amounted to usurping the rights of the common man. He said that he would not tolerate corruption at any cost. He said that the Punjab government had promoted corruption-free culture in the province and a transparent and honest utilisation of resources was being ensured. He said that the government had taken effective measures for the elimination of corruption from the province. The chief minister also directed to submit final recommendations at the earliest for reforms in Anti-Corruption Establishment and said that the institution would have to play an active role for curbing corruption.
CM TALKS ABOUT AGRICULTURE:
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that development of agriculture sector and welfare of cultivators were among the priorities of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government and that the rights of small cultivators would be protected.
He said that the country’s development economy’s strength depended upon prosperity of the farmers He said that subsidy on fertilizers should reach the cultivators and that hoarding would not be tolerated.
Presiding over a high level meeting which reviewed the measures taken for development of the agriculture sector, the chief minister said that agriculture is the backbone of national economy and that the Punjab government had taken effective measures for improving the living standard of the small cultivators. He said that subsidy of billions of rupees had been given for the provision of agri-implements besides providing other facilities to the farmers.
The chief minister directed the concerned departments to take effective measures to prevent hoarding of subsidized fertilizers.
