- Asad Manzoor Butt wins slot of SCBA general secretary
Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, the nominee of Independent group led by Asma Jahangir group and backed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) won the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections 2015-16.
According to unofficial results, Zafar secured 1,172 votes while his opponent Pir Kaleem Khursheed of the Hamid Khan group obtained 915 votes.
Polling for the annual SCBA election was held across the country with polling stations established in all major cities, including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Quetta, Multan, Hyderabad, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Peshawar.
According to details, Ali Zafar got 520 votes from Lahore while his rival Khursheed bagged 396 votes. From Karachi Zafar obtained 154 votes and Khursheed 107.
Similarly, Zafar clinched 80 votes from Multan, 27 from Abbottabad and 14 from Sukkur while Khursheed took 63 from Multan, 18 from Abbottabad and five from Sukkur. In the Capital, Zafar bagged 225 votes and Khursheed 162.
The SCBA general secretary seat was won by Asad Manzoor Butt of the Hamid Khan group by obtaining 1,038 votes. His opponent candidate Aftab Ahmed bagged 1,008 votes. Meanwhile, the victory of Ali Zafar was widely celebrated across the country.
