A special court, constituted for the hearing of Pervez Musharraf’s treason case, on Tuesday indicated to start proceedings against former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, and former law minister Zahid Hamid as co-accused and adjourned the hearing till the last week of November.
The two-member bench of the special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab heard the case.
During the hearing, Justice Faisal Arab remarked that the court had not proceeded with the case for the last ten months and that now, it wanted to proceed against all four co-accused simultaneously.
Justice Arab expressed the hope that by the time of the next hearing in late November, verdict of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) would be announced.
Justice Faisal Arab inquired about the status of the case in IHC. Faisal Chaudhry, counsel of former president general (r) Pervez Musharraf, informed the court that IHC had reserved its verdict in this case.
Prosecutor informed the court that federal government had stated before the court that it was ready to amend the complaints. Justice Faisal Arab questioned why the federal government had not registered the amended complaints so far.
The prosecutor in Pervez Musharraf’s case had submitted an application in the court seeking to abolish the bail surety bonds of the former president saying that he (Pervez Musharraf) had appeared before the court in person and his surety bonds had not been extended. The prosecutor maintained that the order should be declared null and void.
Justice Faisal Arab said that Pervez Musharraf had to get his bail approved again if his surety bonds were taken back or if the court declared them null and void. However, he ruled that Pervez Musharraf was to be allowed bail. At this, the prosecutor withdrew the application.
The court adjourned the hearing till November 27, 2015.
