NAB arrests bank manager for embezzling funds meant for terror affectees

NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday arrested the former Habib Bank Limited Khar Bajaur Agency branch manager Muhammad Iqbal presently posted as HBL Inayat Kalay Bajaur Branch Manager.

Iqbal is allegedly involved in embezzlement of funds in the Compensation payment made to the affectees of terrorism after operation in Bajaur Agency (FATA) and is accused of embezzling millions of rupees.

As per details, the government of Pakistan announced compensations to the affectees of Mohmand and Bajaur Agencies of Rs 160,000 for partially damaged houses and Rs 400,000 for completely damaged houses.

During the course of enquiry, it was revealed that the accused Muhammad Iqbal used fake signatures on the bank account opening forms and opened hundreds of bogus bank accounts in the names of so called affectees in HBL Khar Branch Bajaur Agency. He, in connivance with FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) officials, paved the way for embezzling millions of rupees meant for the affectees of terrorism after operation in Bajour Agency.

Former director general FDMA Arshad Khan and assistant director Irfanullah have already been apprehended in the case.

NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is actively pursuing the case and more arrests are on the cards. The accused will be produced before the Peshawar Accountability Court for obtaining his physical remand.
