China donates Rs 10m for earthquake victims

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang on Wednesday sent messages of condolences to President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over the recent earthquake, as the Chinese Red Cross donated Rs 10 million for the relief assistance of earthquake victims.

In his message, President Xi said he was shocked to learn that the earthquake in Afghanistan has caused severe losses of lives and property in Pakistan. On behalf of the government and people of China, Xi expressed his deep condolences to the victims and sincere sympathy to the families of the victims and the wounded.

President Xi stressed that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners sharing weal and woe.

“The Chinese people feel the same pain suffered by the Pakistani people,” he said. The Chinese side is willing to provide support and assistance for the Pakistani side within its capacity. He was convinced that under the leadership of President Mamnoon Hussain and the Government of Pakistan, the Pakistani people are bound to overcome the disaster and rebuild their homeland.

Premier Li Keqiang in his message expressed the willingness of the Chinese side to do its utmost to provide support and assistance to the Pakistani side. He was convinced that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the people of Pakistan are bound to overcome the disaster and rebuild their homeland at an early date.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also extended sincere sympathy and condolences to Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.

Meanwhile, China Red Cross donated Rs 10 million for the relief assistance of earthquake victims, as a gesture of goodwill to the people of Pakistan at the difficult time.

Chinese Ambassador, Sun Weidong handed over the donation cheque to Pakistan Red Crescent Chairman Dr Saeed Elahi here on Wednesday at the PRC National Headquarters.

In his brief remarks on the occasion, Ambassador Sun said that the Chinese government and the people stand with their Pakistani brothers in this hour of need.

China and Pakistan are close neighbours, good friends and iron brothers. Chinese government, leadership and people will stand by hand-in hand with their Pakistani brethren to face this natural calamity.
