Civil society the other day held a demonstration against of hunting permits for houbara bustards being issued to elite foreigners.
Holding multi-coloured placards, members of civil society gathered near Khadda Market and chanted slogans against the issuance of hunting permits to Saudi royals.
The apex court had, in August this year, banned the government’s decision to issue hunting permits for rare migratory birds.
However, the government was considering lifting this ban and granting permits to foreigners, including Saudi royals.
The civil society activists were of the view that the government was still issuing hunting permits despite the court’s ban.
“These are rare birds and come to Pakistan as our guests. No one has the right to hunt them,” said one of the demonstrators.
