212 street criminals arrested in current year in capital

Islamabad Police have arrested 212 persons involved in street crimes during the current year and recovered 148 snatched mobile phones, looted cash and valuables worth Rs. 28.8 million from their possession, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

The spokesman said that the Capital Police had enhanced patrolling as well as vigilance besides obtaining records of those who had been involved in street crimes and arrested a total of 212 criminals. He said that 148 snatched mobile phones, looted cash and valuables including gold ornaments were also recovered from their possession.

SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiani has directed all Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) to ensure effective patrolling in their jurisdictions and take stern action against the anti-social elements. Following his constant monitoring of police performance, the spokesman said, a significant reduction was witnessed in street crimes.

On the directions of IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, all police officials and SHOs have launched aggressive campaigns against those involved in street crimes while records of those who have been involved in street crimes is also being compiled.

SSP Islamabad has also directed to ensure vigilance against the suspects and effectively monitor all entry and exit points of the city. “It is our prime responsibility to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens. Those police officials involved in dereliction of duties or adopting sluggish attitude would not be spared and strict disciplinary action would be taken against them,” the SSP is reported to have said.
