Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid said on Sunday that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) needed to facilitate election observers in line with its commitment to electoral transparency.
The minister in his statement said that independent observation of elections by organizations like The Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) had contributed to the transparency of elections.
He said that the observers systematically gather objective information about the quality of elections which assists in the reforms process. The issue of security clearance should be streamlined and simplified so that election observers including citizen volunteers could play their role of observing elections and perform their duties, the minister added.
The minister requested the ECP to facilitate election observers and said that the democratic government was committed to complete transparency.
