At least 14 people were killed and 35 other sustained injuries when a bus carrying pilgrims from Gujranwala to Shorkot overturned while taking a sharp turn due to over-speeding in Jhab Kalan area near Mian Channu on Thursday.
Seven passengers were killed on the spot while another seven died at the hospital. Three women and five children are among the 35 people injured in the accident. All the dead passengers belonged to Gujranwala.
Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and shifted the dead and injured to District Hospital Vehari. The driver and conductor of the bus fled the scene after the accident.
Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
