City Traffic Police (CTP) is facing shortage of Traffic wardens and a summary has been submitted to the Punjab Govt for the enrollment of 1400 new wardens.
According to details CTP service in Rawalpindi was launched by Punjab Govt in 2007 to handle traffic issues. At that time it was estimated to facilitate city and Cantonment, 1300 wardens were approved and employed. However 180 wardens left the job later on.
Considerable number of traffic wardens was transferred to Murree later on.
In 2010, all the Tehsils of Rawalpindi district including Texila, Gujar Khan, Kotli Sattian, Kahuta, and Kallar Syedaan were added in the traffic Police circle As population of the city also increased the wardens became in sufficient to overcome the traffic situation.
After a comprehensive survey, a report was prepared by Chief Traffic Officer Khurram Shoaib Janbaz that estimated that a total of 2500 warden were needed for Rawalpindi city. The summary stated that 1300 posts had already been sanctioned and approval of the additional posts as well as to fill in the vacancies was urgently required in order to facilitate smooth movement of traffic.
