Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Haider Jamali on Thursday visited the routes of main processions of 9th Muharram-ul-Harram and got the information about deployment of sharpshooters, police commandos and pickets established on rooftops of buildings along the processions routes.
During his visit, other senior police officers also accompanied him where he was informed that over 6,155 police personnel are performing their duties. Sindh reserved police, rapid response force, reserved platoons, and zonal and district police have also been given responsibilities under contingency plan.
He was also informed that along with 28 SSPs, 65 DSPs and 82 lady police constables, 78 mobiles, 62 motorcycles and 7 armoured personnel carrier have also been deployed for patrolling.
While further informing about the report regarding 9th Muharram contingency plan, the IGP told that the police were ensuring the solid actions regarding security of more than 342 imambargahs, 557 majalis venues, 236 processions routes, about 48 places of sermons. He was further informed that Sub-Inspector Tariq Mehmood was appointed as focal person for integrated contacts between media and police. In the report, it was told that in the context of the extraordinary security measures, every kind of vehicle was prohibited to park near the imambargahs, majalis venues, routes of procession and along with the deployment of civil and dressed personnel in distant parking areas. The police were ensuring the sweeping and snap checking through the bomb disposal squad.
It was told in the report that along with walkthrough gates in the entrances of NishterPark, police assures the physical checking of participants through the metal detectors with the cooperation of administration. However, same measures have been taken for Hussainia Irania Imambargah.
Report said that live video recordings of security measures of majalis and processions were being conducted from the command and control room established in the central police office.
The IGP instructed that while making Muharram contingency plan effective, impartial action should be ensured regarding Section 144 and said that patrolling and random snap-checking should also be made effective.
AGENCIES WARN OF ATTACKS
The intelligence agencies on Thursday dispatched to the high-ups a report regarding sabotage plans in Karachi by terrorists during the holy month of Muharram.
Terrorists already in custody of law enforcement agencies revealed this sabotage plan.
According to the letter dispatched by the spy agencies, three groups of terrorists are planning to launch assaults around the mega city. It should be mentioned here that Asif Chhotu is the most important commander of Laskhar-e-Jhangavi (LeJ), a proscribed outfit. He has constituted the terrorist groups for launching attacks in the city.
