Mobile phone service to remain suspended on 9, 10 Muharram

The Punjab government has imposed a ban on pillion riding, besides suspension of cellular services across the province on 9 and 10 Muharram.

This decision was taken during a meeting held to review law and order situation in the province with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the chair. The provincial government has directed law enforcement agencies to ensure foolproof security arrangements.

Ten cities have been declared as the most sensitive, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Multan, Gujranwala, Jang, Rahimyar Khan, Chiniot and Rawalpindi.

75 companies of Pakistan Army and 12 companies of Rangers will be deployed along with police across the province. All the processions and congregations will be monitored and 39 drone cameras will be utilised for this purpose. A control unit has been set up at Central Police Office Lahore.
