Asif Zardari pays tribute to Begum Nusrat Bhutto

Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday paid tribute to Begum Nusrat Bhutto calling her a “national asset” on her fourth death anniversary.

“Maadr-i-Jamhooriat Begum Nusrat Bhutto is a national asset who stands tall in contemporary history as an extraordinary woman in a long and tortuous struggle for democracy who continues to inspire democrats to lofty goals in life,” Zardari said in his message on the death anniversary of Begum Nusrat Bhutto, which falls on 23.

“Begum Sahiba personally led from the front a heroic struggle for the restoration of democracy in the country,” he said. “Seldom has a woman endured so much in the course of democratic struggle”.

“The scars of brutalisation that she wore on her mind and body will continue to shine as glittering medallions,” he said.

Nusrat Bhutto was the spouse of the PPP’s charismatic founder, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and the mother of the twice elected prime minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto.

“On the occasion of her fourth death anniversary while we pay her homage let us also rededicate ourselves to the principles for which the Begum Sahiba struggled all her life and suffered so much,” Zardari said.
