The government on Thursday appointed senior journalist Absar Alam as chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
The appointment was made on advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and an official notification in this regard will be issued in a day or two.
Alam, a senior career journalist, has worked with a number of media groups in Pakistan.
PEMRA is a government body established in 2002 to facilitate and regulate electronic media in the country.
