At least 35 returning officers on Wednesday approved the pleas of participating candidates in local government elections for changing location of polling booths.

The candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and independent candidates claimed that most of the polling stations had been arranged near the houses of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidates, which they said was against the rules.

They said that the incumbent government could affect the voters on the day of elections. Therefore, they demanded to relocate the booths far away from the residences of PML-N candidates.

Earlier, Parks and Horticulture Authority formed a four-member squad to ensure implementation of rules and regulations set for the upcoming local bodies elections in Lahore.

The administration issued directives to remain in touch with the senior officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for assistance in monitoring the campaigns being launched by the participating candidates. The PHA has been authorized to seize banners, flexes and hoardings larger than the specified size.

According to sources, PHA has confiscated dozens of banners and other printed materials for violating the size limit from the areas of Shaukat Khanum Road, Wapda Town, Valencia Town, Mcleod Road, G.T Road, G.P.O Chowk, Mall Road, Mazang, Garhi Shahu and Circular Road.

The authorities have also confiscated the posters of the candidates of Lahore High Court Bar Council.
