IHC seeks replies to annul summons of minors for playing in street

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday sought replies from parties over a plea that challenged summons of three minors issued by the magistrate in a window-breaking case.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddique was hearing petition seeking annulment of children’s summons issued after they were reported for playing in the streets.

Petitioner’s counsel Israr Abbasi advocate said that the children were being harassed in the court. He challenged the grounds on which minors had been summoned. He denounced issuance of summons for playing in the streets as illegal harassment.

The court adjourned the hearing until the first week of November. The IHC issued notices to parties and sought replies.

Talking to the media outside the court, Abbasi said that Customs Officer Haleema Raza filed plea against the children in capacity of Deputy Collector. He alleged Raza of using police pressure to harass children.

Earlier on 19, the Customs officer approached the court and stated that three children had broken window of her car and that she was disturbed by the constant noise and ruckus in the street. The three children nominated were three-year-old Mohib, seven-year-old Abdul Manan and two-year-old Minhaj.

Sources said that the magistrate did not take into account the ages and issued the summons. The children showed up in the court but magistrate’s absence postponed the hearing.
