20 suspects arrested in city

Rangers on Tuesday arrested at least 20 suspects including members of banned outfits and drug smugglers during a search operation in Shireen Jinnah Colony area of Karachi.

During door-to-door search, Rangers blocked the entry and exit points in the area and rounded up at least 20 suspects. Different weapons were also recovered in the action. There is a heightened alert across the country to avert any untoward incident on Youm-e-Ashur. Meanwhile, at least 300 security cameras have been installed on passages through which mourning processions will pass in connection with Muharram.

The cameras will assist personnel on identifying suspects. The development has come in after police and district government collaborated and vowed to protect lives and properties of the locals during Muharram. The administration said that at least 75 cameras were being operated by private companies while as many as 250 cameras by the city district government and the Sindh police. At least three command and control rooms have been established to monitor the activities all the time. Rangers, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), Sindh police and sniffing dogs will take part in security maintenance.

WOMAN FOUND DEAD, TWO SHOT INJURED

A woman found was dead while an accused was arrested in an injured condition and another was shot at in various incident of violence on Tuesday.

According to rescue sources, a body of a woman, identified as Sadaf Akhtar, 35, wife of Imran Qureshi, was found dead from the house in PIB Colony. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for an autopsy.

The police said that during patrolling near Supari Wala Compound Doli Khata, the area behind the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), one dacoit, identified as Aamar Sami 19, son of Abdul Waheed, was arrested in injured condition while his accomplice managed to escape. The police said one pistol and four rounds were recovered from his possession. Police claimed that the arrested accused belonged to Baba Ladla group.

In another incident, a man, Amjad, 35, resident of Gul Ahmed area, was shot at and injured by unknown gunmen near Gul Ahmed in Landhi. The injured was brought to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for treatment.
