In a shocking incident, four members of a Dalit family, including two children, were set afire allegedly by the upper caste Hindus in Sunped village , near Delhi.

The two children (aged 10 months and two years respectively) were declared dead on arrival at a hospital in Delhi.

The incident took place in Prithla region where the house of a Dalit family was set afire around 3 a.m, according to the initial reports. Four persons including two children sustained burn injuries and were referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. The parents are diagnosed with 30 per cent and five per cent burns.

The village has a history of clash between the Dalits and the Upper Caste Hindus. Three persons were murdered in a clash between the two groups last year. The attack on the Dalit house today [Tuesday] is seen as an act of revenge.

The situation in the village is tense following the incident and police have been deployed in large numbers.

The incident has once again raised a question mark on the safety of Dalits in Haryana. While dalits of Mirchpur village are striving for their safety, Dalits from Bhagana who recently embraced Islam are camping in New Delhi.
