The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rejected the committee set up by the government to redress the grievances of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), opposing the inclusion of Barrister Farogh Nasim and appointment of interior secretary as convener of the GRC, according to a statement issued by the party on Sunday.

Inclusion of an active MQM member would render the Grievance Redressal Committee partial, said PTI’s leader Naeemul Haq.

The MQM lawmakers had submitted their resignations on August 12 in protest against what the party called extrajudicial killings and disappearances of its workers at the hands of law enforcement agencies in Karachi.

PTI spokesperson Naeemul Haq said in a statement that the ‘inclusion of an active MQM member in the committee has set the foundations of partiality’.

He claimed that the constitution of the committee would not only affect the ongoing operation against criminal elements in Karachi but also termed the appointment of interior secretary as the committee’s convener as an attempt provide access of sensitive information to the MQM.

Haq further said that setting up of the committee was an expression of non-confidence in the judicial system of the country and will prove the Muttahida Qaumi Movement with a ‘blackmailing opportunity’.
