Leaves of jail staff across the province have been cancelled to strengthen security in and around prisons.
The staffs have been directed to report for duty immediately otherwise strict action will be taken against them.
Official sources told APP on Sunday that Provincial Prisons Chief Mian Farooq Nazeer has directed all regional DIGs and senior superintendents throughout the province to call back staffs that are availing leaves.
Meanwhile, Lahore Range DIG Mubshar Ahmad Khan has also directed all superintendents, deputy and assistant superintendents of the Lahore Range not to leave the prison premises without prior approval and further directed staff to ensure round-the-clock armed patrolling in and around the jails.
He also paid a surprise visit to Central Jail Kotlakhpat and Camp Jail to monitor security arrangements and expressed his satisfaction. Both Senior Superintendent Kotlakhpat Asad Javed Warriach and Superintendent Camp Jail Shahram Tauqir Khan briefed him about the deployment of special staff on all-important points to ensure foolproof security.
