Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that Shah Mehmood Qureshi is an important pillar of the party.
The PTI chief categorically rejected reports that Qureshi was leaving the party and said that he was instead playing a crucial role in strengthening the party. He said that Qureshi could not participate in the campaign for NA-122 by-polls as he was engaged with a local party cadre regarding preparations for the upcoming local government elections. He said that Qureshi was a senior party leader and would continue to steer the party towards more success in the future.
When contacted, Qureshi also rejected the reports.
“Such reports could be figment of someone’s imagination; I am not leaving the party. Such reports have no significance and they are baseless. Some elements are spreading rumours,” he added.
Qureshi said that he has just attended an important party meeting in Bani Gala Islamabad.
“I have joined the party under the party’s vision of a new Pakistan,” he said, adding that there was no truth about differences between the party chief and him.
