Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad Police arrested 588 criminals during the current year including mostly those involved in heinous crime and recovered valuables worth of Rs. 7.14 million from their possession.
Addressing a press conference here at Central Investigation Agency (CIA) Headquarters, the SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiani said that SIU has succeeded against criminal elements and accomplished various tasks in a responsible manner. He said that IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan categorically directed all police officials to accelerate efforts against criminal elements following which a remarkable success has been achieved in reducing crime rate.
Highlighting the success story of SIU, Mr. Kiani of Islamabad police, said that various teams of SIU were constituted under supervision of SP (Investigation) Muhammad Ilyas to trace those involved in crime cases of heinous nature and a total of 588 criminals were nabbed during the ongoing year.
A total of 17 persons involved in murder or attempt cases, 14 kidnappers and accused involved in taking away gold ornaments worth Rs.42,35,000 during dacoit were also nabbed.
He said that nabbed criminals included eight extortionists, 288 dacoits, 18 Pos. These teams, he said, also arrested 70 Burglars, 40 accused involved in car or bike theft, 98 accused for having illegal weapons and narcotics and 18 court absconders.
The recoveries made from various accused included one truck, one excavator machine, several motorbikes, gold ornaments, jewellery, clothes, LCDs, Computers, Digital Cameras, household articles, electronics equipment and porn movies.
SIU also recovered 111 Pistols, 483 Cartridges, over 133 kilogram hashish, 16 kilogram opium and 12 bottles of liquor. After completion of investigation, all the arrested accused has been channeled to the concerned competent courts.
