Civil Defence has imposed a ban on open sale of petrol in cans and bottles during Muharram while plans are being set afoot for a crackdown on shopkeepers selling police, army and Rangers uniforms.

According to details, civil defence officials sealed 11 agencies during a crackdown against filling stations selling petrol to those without vehicles.

A notification has also been issued in this connection to owners of filling stations warning them to not sell petrol in cans and bottles.

Also, sale of army, police and Rangers uniforms has been declared a crime, and soon a crackdown will be initiated against shopkeepers involved in this business.

Meanwhile, a comprehensive security plan has been drawn up by the Rawalpindi administration to ensure peace and order during Muharram. In addition to deployment of police and Rangers personnel, CCTV cameras have been installed at the exit and entrance points of the city and on the route of the main Muharram procession.
