WPC perturbed over news about gang rape of young woman by police

The Secretary Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) MNA ShaistaPervaiz Malik has shown her great concern over the gang rape of a young girl in Muzaffargarh district of Punjab by police.

In a statement here on Thursday, she urged the police and the Punjab government to investigate the issue and share the investigation report with the WPC at the earliest.

She pledged personally as well as on behalf of the WPC to pursue the matter and ensure that the culprits are given exemplary punishment which is significant to cleanse the society from such heinous ills.

She emphasized the need on the creation of mechanisms for monitoring and accountability of crimes against women and children. The WPC will immediately examine the existing laws and policy regarding gang rape in order to identify any gaps that could be filled in through legislative measures ensuring that no rape victim has to go through such an emotional and physical ordeal.

Pervaiz also emphasized the need to improve the process of registering complaints and the attitude of police in sensitive matters to avoid unfortunate events in the future.
