Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and his wife Princess Sofia are expecting their first child in April, the royal palace announced on Thursday.
In a statement published on Facebook, the couple said: ‘We are so happy and excited to announce that we are expecting our first child. We are very much looking forward to it.’
Carl-Philip, 36, is the second child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.
He married former glamour model Sofia Hellqvist, 30, an elegant brunette commoner known for her infectious gap-toothed smile and easygoing ways, in June.
The palace also revealed: ‘The birth is expected to take place in April of 2016. No changes in the schedule of The Prince Couple’s public engagements are planned during the fall of 2015.’
The Facebook post has received over 65,000 likes on the Royal Swedish Court’s page.
The prince’s elder sister, Crown Princess Victoria, is also pregnant and due to give birth to her second child in March.
She and her husband Prince Daniel are already parents to Estelle, born in February 2012.
Princess Madeleine, the youngest of the king’s children at 33, has two children born in February 2014 and June 2015.
The Princess was last seen at the christening of Prince Nicolas at Drottningholm Palace Chapel in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday and showed no sign of a bump in a burgundy pussy-bow dress.
Princess Sofia has taken to her royal duties, earlier this month the Princess and Princess Sofia and Prince Carl-Philip met with with a group of refugee children at a centre for migrants.
The royal duo visited the refugee camp in Borlänge, central Sweden, as part of their two-day tour and participated in a play session with refugee children.
