Naseeruddin Shah says being targeted for being Muslim

A famous Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah said that he has faced various threats for being Muslim but he is proud to be a part of India. He said that he will not permit anyone to question his devotion towards the country.

The actor expressed his views over how Muslims are being treated in India during former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Kasuri’s book launch two days ago.

Reacting on the treatment he faced during participation in an event in Mumbai, Shah revealed that it was for the first time he was taunted for belonging to a Muslim community.

According to Indian media, the 66-year-old actor said that I was left “dejected” with the way I was misunderstood and misreported in the media for a comment on Pakistan. He stated that I have never thought of uttering any anti-Indian statement as four generations of my family have lived in India.

He further asked that appreciating any Pakistani star, cricketer or actor means that I don’t praise my country’s talent? He clarified that he is a born Indian and no one can question his identity.

Talking about Pakistan’s perspective over culture, Shah delightedly added that Pakistani nation always welcomes artists from India. He termed Pakistan a strong supporter of strengthening cultural ties with India and criticized Indian government for scorning Pakistani talent.

Cancelling an artist’s performance is a matter of great insult for him, he said.
