The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday reserved judgment on the petition filed by the federal government against suspension of Kissan package.

Division bench of IHC comprising Justice Noor ul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Amir Farooq took up the petition for hearing.

Attorney General (AG) Suleman Butt appeared on behalf of the federation while Munir Paracha advocate represented Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Paracha filed the record relating to ECP’s code of conduct for the elections in the court. He said that it was the responsibility of the ECP to hold elections under the code of conduct and that the Commission did not need to consult with political parties in this regard. He argued that political order-2002 was issued for holding intra party election and it was not meant for Local Bodies (LB) polls.

Justice Qureshi asked what the position of the code of conduct was without consultation of the political parties. He remarked that the ECP had itself created ambiguity.

Munir Paracha advocate said that other institutions should provide assistance for implementation of code of conduct announced by the Commission.

The court, while reserving judgment on the petition, adjourned hearing in the case.
