Jelena Jankovic took less than an hour to beat Anastasia Rodionova and secure her place in the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open on Wednesday.

The former world number one suffered a first-round defeat against Dominika Cibulkova at the China Open earlier this month, but has responded with two straight-sets victories in Hong Kong.

Fourth seed Jankovic, given a wildcard place in the tournament, needed only 59 minutes to see off outsider Rodionova 6-0 6-2.

The Serb punished the world number 255 from Australia by winning five of six break points on the Rodionova serve and did not lose a game on her own serve in a clinical display.

Jankovic will come up against Daria Gavrilova in the last eight after the sixth seed ousted Lara Arruabarrena 7-6 (7-4) 6-1.

Arruabarrena toiled on serve as Gavrilova earned 13 break points, with the Russian bossing the second set after being edged out in a tie-break in the first.

Elsewhere, Samantha Stosur and Heather Watson will meet in the last eight after wins over Monica Puig and Lee Ya-hsuan respectively.
