District Education Authorities have been established in 36 Districts of Punjab for control of Govt and civilian institutions and improve the education standard. In this connection a notification has been issued which states that DEO of every District would be the Chairman and EDO would be the Secretary of Education Authority.
It was decided a few days earlier after a preliminary survey by the Government that each and every branch of private educational institutions will be registered separately of every chain of educational institutions if they are functioning in different campuses or buildings.
In addition it is said that the member of Education Authority would be from Private Education institutions and NGOs . Later on local bodies members will also be involved.
The Teacher Unions have taken an exception of the development and claimed that the purpose of this authority is to deliver the Education department to Private sector in different phases.
Education Authority will also be given special powers to enroll and transfer Teachers and deal with issues like Pay adjustments, pension, merger of schools, suspension of extra teachers and Private schools registration
