Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu separately on Tuesday.

The Turkish leaders appreciated Pakistan’s role for regional peace and Pakistan army’s contributions in defeating terrorism. They emphasized fraternal ties between the two brotherly nations.

Twin explosions in Ankara killed at least 97 people on Saturday, though the unofficial count is being put at 128. The bombs exploded at a crowd of activists outside the main railway station in the Turkish capital. The explosions sparked national mourning and messages of support from the international community. The Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is the prime suspect in the bombing.

The COAS assured total support to Turkish leadership and people in handling their security challenges.

Sharif also called on defence minister and chief of general staff separately and expressed satisfaction on defence cooperation between the two countries. Both sides vowed to further enhance defence collaboration.
