The Punjab Govt has reportedly decided to impose complete ban on teachers unions
According to sources in the Education department, the ban will be imposed from January, 2016 at the beginning of new year. The sources said that a notification in this connection will be issued in Decmber, 2015.
Decision is taken in the light of the High court order for banning employees organisation in nine educational boards in the Province and in view of the deteriorating standard of education.
Punjab government officials are of the opinion that the Punjab educational institutions are not commercial and free education is provided there while there are more than 25 categories of unions in Punjab institutions, some of them comprising only one or two teachers.
The government view point is that leaders of the teachers union do not perform their academic responsibilities and under the garb of organizational activities, they carry out their private businesses and teach in private schools and academies. They said due to strikes, the educational system has been paralysed and students of government run schools do not secure positions in results of educational boards. They said that due to teachers union, the educational atmosphere is vitiated and the standard of education has deteriorated.
Leaders of teachers unions/association while confirming the report said the government was already implementing this policy. In the first phase several leaders of the associations have been removed under different charges. They however said they would resist such a move and knock the door of the court.
