Khurram Dastgir says China played key role in economic development of Pakistan

Federal Minister for Commerce Engr. Khurram Dastagir Khan on Monday highlighted the role of China in the economic development of Pakistan and referred to the various projects in the areas of energy, infrastructure and logistics, industry and other sectors being implemented under the $46 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Speaking as the chief guest at the launch ceremony of Agven Private Limited, He said that the integration of the economies of China and Pakistan was the joint vision of China’s President Xi Jinping and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Agven Private Limited is a Singapore based company and has a fertilizer marketing and distribution operation in Pakistan. Agven has a long term association with Guizhou Kailin Group, China which is one of the largest producers of DAP Fertilizer in China.

The minister welcomed the entry of one of the largest producers of phosphoric fertilizers in the Pakistan market. He said that he hoped one day Guizhou Kailin would consider setting up a production facility in Pakistan and assured full support from the government and the Ministry of Commerce.

The launch event was also attended by the Political Secretary at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China Zhao Lijian; Managing Director of Guizhou Kailin Holding (Group) Co. Ltd Madam Liao Hui,; Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security & Research Rajab Ali Baloch; a large number of dealers and distributors of fertilizers, senior officials of various federal ministries; representatives of Farmer’s Association of Pakistan; senior bankers and representatives and senior officials from the Agriculture Ministries of KPK and Punjab.

Madam Liao Hui briefed the participants about the history of the Guizhou Kailin Group since 1958 and informed the audience that the group was the second largest producer of phosphoric fertilizer in China and that in 2014 more than half of all imports of DAP Fertilizer into Pakistan was sourced from China.

She informed the audience that the Kailin group had an asset base of $7 billion with an annual turnover of $6 billion. She said that Agven was one of Kailin’s partners in the Pakistan market with a team that had extensive experience and professional knowledge of the fertilizer market and assured full cooperation of her organization to assure long-term and stable supply of the product.

In her closing remarks she said that she hoped that the fertilizer dealer community would extend its full cooperation to Agven in promoting Kailin products.

Earlier, Agven Pakistan’s Chief Executive Abdul Samad Khan introduced the company’s objectives of assisting the farming community by providing good quality fertilizer in the market. He said that the company’s vision was part of its corporate identity of fostering partnerships. Chairman All Pakistan Fertilizer Dealer’s Association Nadim Yasin and Agven Pakistan’s Chief Operating Officer Nasir Iqbal also spoke on the occasion.
