Islamabad High Court on Monday suspended notification issued by Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA), directing private schools to return increased fee to the students.
A single bench comprising Justice Aamir Farooq heard the petition filed by two private schools namely, Beaconhouse School System (BHSS) and The City Schools (TCS) against the notification of PEIRA.
Shahid Hamid, counsel for the BHSS and Asma Jahangir, counsel for TCS appeared before the bench.
During the course of proceedings, both counsels pleaded that authority issued notification for refunding fees to students without prior notices to the schools which was against the rules and regulations.
They argued for the suspension of the notification till the ruling on this petition otherwise applicants would suffer a loss.
The bench after hearing the arguments at length suspended the notification till the decision on this petition and issued notices to the federation and PEIRA for November 12, seeking their reply.
It is pertinent to mention that earlier, Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi had directed the private school to charge fee from the students on old rates as private schools increased fee without approval of PEIRA. In the light of this observation, PEIRA issued notification to refund the increased fee to the students and charge it according to the previous schedule.
