Aseefa Bhutto Zardari visited Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College, Lyari on Monday to personally review the facilities available there and apprise herself about the requirements for further improvement.
Aseefa Bhutto Zardari visited the faculties and was briefed by Principal Prof Anjum Rehman about the College and its needs. She intermingled with the medical students and exchanged pleasantries with them. Students were excited to see Aseefa Bhutto Zardari among them and took selfies with her.
She said that SMBB Medical College was established in the light of vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for progressive, prosperous and educated Lyari where Lyari General Hospital was approved by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto herself two decades back.
She was pleased that the SMBB Medical College has been promoted to an A-Category College within four years of its establishment. She was also happy to know that the first batch of 100 students will be graduating from the College within the next few months and exhorted them to go to their own areas, especially areas with meagre health facilities. She told them to serve the poor.
Aseefa Bhutto Zardari also assured the students and the management of the College that she would talk to the Sindh chief minister and the Sindh health minister to resolve their problems.
Earlier, the principal and other faculty members briefed Aseefa about issues that needed the government’s urgent attention.
Sources said that the sanitary and other staff was seen extremely busy cleaning up the hospital ahead of the VVIP visit. However, apart from its momentary presentable shape, they said that the teaching hospital remains in deplorable sanitary conditions on most other occasions.
