Regulus, the brightest star in the Leo constellation, will appear just to the upper right of Venus.

Later this month the three planets will all meet in the closest grouping of the three until January 2021. While planetary conjunctions occur often, it’s rare when 3 planets form such a tight grouping in our skies! [Sky Maps: The Best Night Sky Events of October 2015]. He explains Venus is the third brightest object that is visible in the sky, next to the sun and moon.

And if three bright planets aren’t enough for you, how about we add a fourth to this celestial array? It’s not a star, of course.

“A check on the website of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) found that the phenomenon whereJupiter appears to be very close to Venus in the sky, also known as the “Conjunction”, is normal”. Jupiter, while much larger than Venus, is now 10 times more distant, so it’s less bright. Mars is much dimmer, but it’s distinctly red and it will be above Jupiter.

You’ll need to be able to see the horizon to gaze at Mercury. Make sure you find a spot with a good eastern horizon. McAllister says on that morning, Mars and Jupiter will appear to almost touch.

Over the next few mornings the gap between Venus and Jupiter gets narrower and Jupiter moves towards Mars.

Weather permitting, over the next four days the Moon and the planets will provide a great sight in the morning sky.

Make it a habit to go out early this month and have a look at the planets.

After the four planets, the second week of October is expected to have a brighter sky as the Mercury begins to appear until later in the month. Venus will appear until October 26, shining every evening for about two hours before the first light of dawn. Face west and turn 90 degrees to your left.
