COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) has disbursed Rs.800 million as scholarship among its students during current financial years.
The financial support was disbursed this year among 6,500 students by CIIT to ensure that deserving students who are unable to pay fees receive quality higher education, sources in the Institute disclosed.
One out of every five students enrolled received some kind of financial assistance as the Institute believes no student should be deprived due to their inability to pay the fees, they said.
Impressed by the achievement of an A-level student Waqas Ali from Sindh, who recently made headlines by winning a global Microsoft (MS Office) competition and beating 600,000 participants, CIIT offered to fully fund his education at the Institute.
Waqas Ali, who hails from Mirpur Mathelo in Ghotki district, participated in the “PowerPoint 2013” competition at the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship (MOSWC) and won the bronze medal. In the final round, held in Dallas, Texas (USA), 145 students from 47 countries participated.
CIIT has offered Ali a fully-funded scholarship from its Endowment Fund to pursue a four-year bachelor degree in Computer Science, at the Institute, after successfully completing his A-levels, in pursuit of its policy to attract outstanding talent.
