World Mental Health Day was observed with theme “Dignity in mental health” in the new teaching block of Rawalpindi Medical College, Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi.
Eminent Psychiatrists, Professor Malik H. Mubassar, Dean Faculty of Psychiatry Brig Mowadat Rana, Dr. Sania Nishtar and Professor of Psychiatry Dr. Fareed Minhas presented thought provoking presentations regarding the state of affairs of mental patients and focused about the social behavior of people specially those near and dear to the patients.
The seminar was organized in collaboration with Pharma Evo.
In her key note address former Federal Minister for Education, Science and Technology Dr. Sania Nishtar appreciated the contributions of renowned Psychiatrists of Pakistan who had developed the medical treatment facilities for mental patients and promoted research and training in this field.
She reiterated for enactment of relevant laws to ensure the protection of human rights and health cover for mental patients.
Brig Mowadat Rana presented the seven golden principals of Mental Health and stressed on personal contentment, pride and excitement for social and mental health
Head Institute of Psychiatry Benzair Bhutto Hospital, Professor Farid Minhas said positive social behavior enable mental patients for their early recovery.
He said persons with mental disabilities are deprived of their basic rights and unfortunately the issue has never been given attention by all concerns.
He said that people with mental health conditions around the world experience stigma, discrimination and wide ranging violations which strips them off their dignity.
