Weekly inflation eases 0.09pc

The inflation for the week ending on October 08 for the combined income group witnessed a slight decrease of 0.09 percent as compared to the previous week.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 217.11 points against 217.31 points registered in the previous week, according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Meanwhile, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review decreased by 0.85 percent as compared to same period of last year.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. On the other hand, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8000 was also decreased by 0.02 percent as it went down from 209.07 points in the previous week to 209.3 points in the week under review.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12001-18000, Rs 18001-35000 and above Rs 35000 was decreased by 0.06 percent, 0.08 percent, 0.10 percent and 0.12 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 10 items registered decrease, while that of 13 items increased with the remaining 30 items’ prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included onions, egg (farm), bananas, chicken farm, sugar, LPG cylinder, rice basmati, rice irri-6, red chilly and garlic.

The items which recorded increase in their average prices included pulse mash, tomatoes, pulse gram, wheat, pulse moong, wheat flour, powdered milk, gur, salt powder, pulse masoor, potatoes, mutton and vegetable ghee (loose/pouch).
