Armed personnel stand guard on Sunday as voters gather at polling booths today.

While by elections are also underway in PP 147 in Lahore and Okara’s NA 144, it is NA 122 that’s got the nation’s attention. With less than three hours till the polls close, tensions are high in Lahore.

Supporters of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) have taken to the streets with local media in hot pursuit. Already, there have been several reports of face offs between the two, and voter turnout has reportedly risen to 35%.

Media coverage also suggests that so far the police have been efficient in the preservation of peace of the areas.

There have been some allegations regarding faulty and/or inoperative CCTV cameras set up in polling stations. However these allegations have been denied by the Election Commission.

In a related story, local media coverage also reported the alleged use of a government vehicle to deliver food and refreshments to PML-N supporters.
