Sharjah residents have been left in shock following the death of an 11-year-old boy who fell from the sixth floor of the Al Jawaher building.

According to his family, the British national from Yemeni origin jumped from the balcony on Tuesday and died instantly. Investigations suggested that the boy had committed suicide, after he allegedly told a close friend that he was planning to do so.  The close friend told police that the boy told him he was planning to take his life two days prior to the incident. Police have since launched an in-depth investigation to ensure that there was no criminal motive behind the death of the boy.

Understandably the family is devastated, saying that the child was a smart and active kid and enjoyed the company of his school friends. One family member blamed the internet, saying: “It’s the negative influence of the internet and YouTube on the child’s life.”

Just last week there were a series of unfortunate events including a 51-year old man who died after falling from the 19th floor in Sharjah, and a 24-year old woman who thankfully survived after a fall from the first floor balcony located in the same area.

You pose very serious risks to any child for whom you might have responsibility,” he added.
