Drug trade rampant at Adiala Jail, claims report

Reports that narcotics are freely smuggled into prisons in connivance with the jail staff, gained popularity as a former doctor of Adiyala Jail has come out with allegations that officers of the prison are getting a monthly of four lakh rupees in return for allowing drugs inside the premises.

The former doctor at the prison, Mr Arif has in his letter to high officials has claimed of video proofs of the smuggling of narcotics which can provide at any level of inquiry on demand.

Asif said that drugs usage is increasing in the jail despite claims of strict security checking.

He further claimed that in spite of knowledge of the illegal narco trade; some officials of the jail provide protection to the prisoners.

There are reports that the matter is being investigated.

The Jail Superintendent has been quoted as saying that the doctor was leveling baseless charges.

Meanwhile on a petition by a resident of Kashmir colony that due to installation of mobile jammers in Adiyala Jail, the citizens were not getting signals, the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench has issued notices to Ministry of Interior, Home Department,Punjab, DIG Jails, Commissioner and CPO for 3rd November.

The petitioner said that a population of fifty thousand has been denied of the facility of mobile with the installation of jammers.
