Sharmila says reading books may bring tolerance in society

Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Sharmila Faruqui said on Friday that for a better and egalitarian society, they need to revive the book reading culture. Parents and teachers have huge responsibility to restrict their children and students not to fully dependent on internet and other source of learning instead of books.

He said this while inaugurating a “three-day Book Fair 2015” organised by the Sindh Culture and Tourism Department, government of Sindh, at Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi. Several publishers from Sindh open their stalls in fair with 50 percent discounts.

Faruqui said that the society couldn’t be developed without acquaintance with books because book is an asset of any nation. She said everyone should make habit of book reading to make tolerant and peaceful Pakistan and for prosperity of the country. Not only in metropolitan but such exhibitions will also be organised in other cities of Sindh in the current year; she concludes.

Secretary Culture, Tourism & Antiquities Dr Niaz Abbasi, Directorate Culture Sindh Manzoor Hussain Kanasro, President Arts Council Ahmed Shah, and others were present on the occasion. Children along with their families, youngsters, students, and a large number of book lovers visited the book festival on the opening day. The book fair will continue till 11th October 2015.
